Commonwealth Bank chief executive Matt Comyn will remain in the top job at the country’s largest lender for at least another three years, extending his tenure to more than a decade in a move backed by investors and analysts who point to his prodigious work ethic and a sharp rise in its shares.
Moving to stop market speculation about succession plans, CBA chairman Paul O’Malley said the decision about who would replace Comyn would be a matter for the next chair. O’Malley was elected at the bank’s annual shareholder meeting on Wednesday for a final three-year term, with an overwhelming majority supporting his leadership of the board.
