Federal Reserve policymakers voted for a 25 basis point cut in the federal funds rate range on Wednesday (Thursday AEDT), though two dissented. One policymaker voted for no change, the other to cut by half a percentage point.
Chairman Jerome Powell dented some hopes for a clear-cut outlook. “A further reduction in the policy rate at the December meeting is not a foregone conclusion, far from it,” he said in his opening press conference remarks.
