ASX to rise; POSCO’s $1.2b MinRes deal, Flight Centre eyes $340m profit

Australian shares are set to open higher. In New York, the Dow advanced, paced by Merck and Nike, amid rising optimism that the US federal government is poised to reopen within days.

FedEx leapt more than 6 per cent, easing concerns about the holiday season, and helping the S&P 500 reverse early losses.

Shares in Nvidia, which had leapt the previous session, slid 2.5 per cent after SoftBank Group sold its entire stake in the company for $US5.83 billion ($8.9 billion) to help bankroll other artificial intelligence investments. Apple rose 2.2 per cent, retaking the $US4 trillion market cap mark and edging close to a record high.
