Industry super funds are outspending retail rivals on marketing

Australia’s largest industry super funds are spending up to five times more on sponsorship and marketing than similar-sized retail rivals, despite persistent warnings from regulators that they are forking out millions of dollars without any clear benefit to their members.

New disclosures from nine major industry and retail funds show that Aware Super, the nation’s third-largest pension fund with $200 billion under management, was easily the biggest spender on promotional material last financial year, with a $48.6 million bill.
