Australian shares are set to open lower. US stocks closed mixed, with the S&P 500 ending modestly higher after earlier resetting its record high. Oracle surged 36 per cent; Klarna rose 14.6 per cent in its trading debut.

An early surge in New York was driven by a more than 40 per cent spike in Oracle, which faded somewhat as the session progressed. The software company reported a shockingly positive cloud computing outlook that spurred demand for Nvidia and other semiconductor stocks. Nvidia was 3.9 per cent higher late.
