Markets are up, investors are making money but no one is happy

The broader welfare of the Shapiro family of stockbrokers and soccer nuts can be gauged by three main barometers: the gold price, Arsenal Football Club’s standing in the Premier League, and the level of the sharemarket.

All three measures are as good as they get. Yet, a sense of unease prevails. Do we deserve this good fortune, and when will it end? After spending two days camped out at the Sheraton for the annual UBS investment conference, it’s clear others feel the same way.
