The ASX’s new corporate governance body, led by Philip Lowe, will focus on diversity of experience and thought – not personal characteristics such as sexuality, Indigenous heritage and disabilities – when it sets out new rules for boards he expects to be finalised this year.

In his first media interview as head of the new body, the former Reserve Bank of Australia governor said the previous 19-member ASX corporate governance council had become unworkable and he would seek to simplify governance rules for listed companies.
