One of the country’s best-known resources investors, Tribeca Investment Partners director Ben Cleary, has unleashed a tirade on a rival fund manager after he declined to share his views about an ASX-listed minnow.
In an email exchange about bauxite explorer Canyon Resources, Cleary told Raper Capital’s Jeremy Raper that he was a “f…ing loser”.
“I wouldn’t piss on you if you were burning. Bye buy forever,” Cleary wrote to Raper in an email at 6.21am on Wednesday.
Raper, who has been campaigning against what he describes as a low-ball takeover bid for Canyon, posted the exchange on his X account to his more than 50,000 followers.
Raper Capital, which is a one-man equities research blog, has been operating since 2020 and manages about $80 million.
Cleary is one of the country’s biggest resources investors and an outspoken figure in the funds management industry. His Global Natural Resources Fund returned almost 50 per cent in the 2026 financial year after riding the surge in the price of metals such as copper and aluminium.
Earlier this year, Cleary donated $100,000 to One Nation and later travelled with mining magnate Gina Rinehart to Mar-a-Lago to meet US President Donald Trump.
The exchange between Cleary and Raper came after Tribeca analyst Jack Gallagher had asked the activist investor for his plans or objectives for Canyon’s future after the explorer received a takeover offer from A2MP in late July.
