Australian shares are poised to open modestly lower as Wall Street extended its sell-off, with the S&P 500 now in a correction amid escalating uncertainty about the direction and impact of US tariffs.
ASX 200 futures were 0.2 per cent or 12 points lower, predicting the index would extend a three-day losing streak. On Wall Street, the S&P 500 closed at 5521, its lowest level since September. The index has now shed 10 per cent from its February peak. Consumer stocks paced the latest drop with all 11 sectors in negative territory.
