Australian shares are set to edge lower, with US equities ending mixed after President Donald Trump said trade talks between US and Chinese officials in London, while positive, were “not easy”.
Officials from each nation met for more than six hours in London. They plan to meet again on Tuesday starting at 10am in the British capital. US officials struck an optimistic tone; Chinese officials did not comment to the media.
“Fear, capitulation and offsides positioning have driven the 20 per cent-plus rebound in the S&P 500 and Nasdaq Composite,” Morgan Stanley Wealth Management’s Lisa Shalett said in a note. “While ‘peak pessimism’ may be past, we believe we are far from back to where we were in January.”
