The Australian sharemarket rallied on Friday, tracking gains that pushed Wall Street to record highs after August US inflation data bolstered expectations for rate cuts.
The S&P/ASX 200 Index rose 0.7 per cent, or 59.8 points, to 8864.9 at the closing bell, with 10 of the 11 sectors in the green. That’s after all three major US benchmarks lifted, with Dow Jones reaching as high as 46,137.20 before the closing bell.
