Overview

The Reserve Bank of Australia has signalled it would only entertain cutting interest rates if there was a material deterioration in the labour market, reflecting a cautious approach given the board’s lack of clarity around the effect of monetary policy settings on the economy.

The RBA board said that while current interest rate settings were still “a little restrictive”, it was possible this was no longer the case, dampening chances of further interest rate cuts.
