Overview

A consortium of major gas exporters in Queensland has offered to cut purchases of gas from local suppliers and trim LNG shipments in a last-minute bid to head off more onerous obligations to supply the domestic market being considered by the Albanese government.

The concessions offered by Santos’ GLNG venture were discussed at high-level meetings in Canberra on Wednesday that involved top officials from the energy, industry and foreign affairs departments, senior ministerial representatives and the four GLNG partners, according to people familiar with the talks who weren’t authorised to speak publicly.
