ASX to jump; gold, oil prices rally

The Australian sharemarket is expected to open a shortened trading week stronger, tracking gains last week on Wall Street, as strong earnings from Micron Technology helped ease concerns around lofty valuations and high debt levels

Futures tied to the ASX 200 index were last up by 41 points, or 0.5 per cent to 8640. With Christmas on Thursday and Boxing Day on Friday, the local market will only trade three times including a shortened session on Christmas Eve.
