Only one in four fund managers beat the ASX last year

Just one in four Australian active equity fund managers managed to beat the market last year, underscoring the challenge facing an industry that is already competing for inflows from cheaper exchange traded funds.

The S&P Dow Jones Indices Australia scorecard, which rates the performance of active managers, found 74 per cent of Australian equity funds lagged the S&P/ASX 200 Index’s total return of 10.3 per cent in 2025.
