Allan demands Telstra match V/Line reimbursement ‘dollar for dollar’

Victorian Premier Jacinta Allan has taken her own swipe at Telstra following the outage on Wednesday, demanding the telco matches the Victorian government in reimbursing regional rail passengers.
V/Line trains were significantly disrupted on Wednesday forcing buses to replace trains. But the regional train service struggled to find enough buses to transport all passengers, and many commuters faced extra costs.
“Telstra should compensate Victorians and help make sure it never happens again,” Allan said in a statement.
“To start with, V/Line will reimburse regional rail passengers who incurred extra costs. I expect Telstra to match it, dollar for dollar.”
Allan also committed to funding two days of free travel on V/Line at some point in the future, with details to follow.

Police investigating death of South Australian woman during Telstra outage

The death of an elderly woman in regional South Australian, which occurred during the national Telstra outage yesterday, is now being investigated by Police.
On Wednesday evening, Senator Kerrynne Liddle posted on Facebook that a family member had reached out to her in relation to the death which allegedly occurred due to a failure to connect to Triple Zero. This was due to a malfunction timer in two of Telstra’s data centres which caused a nationwide outage of mobile and data services.
