Australian shares are set to open lower, tracking modest losses in New York as US government bond yields pressed higher and oil rose back above the $US90 a barrel mark amid rising tensions between the US and Iran.
ASX 200 futures were down 22 points or 0.2 per cent to 9002. The S&P 500 slipped 0.3 per cent in New York with communication services leading nine of the 11 industry sectors down.
Energy and information technology closed higher.
Nvidia rose 1.4 per cent, SpaceX gained 1.6 per cent and Tesla surged 5.5 per cent. Apple slipped 0.9 per cent on Tim Cook’s final day as chief executive.
