A record number of ASX-listed companies have been buying back shares, but it hasn’t always ended in good news for shareholders with more than half of those to issue buybacks late last year underperforming the market.
This year alone, a record 47 companies in the S&P/ASX 200 Index have announced plans to repurchase shares, a huge jump from just 10 in 2020, according to a report from MST Marquee earlier this month.
