Overview

Investors are cautiously preparing to buy the dip in Australian shares on Monday after US President Donald Trump said Washington was close to reaching an agreement with Iran to end the war and reopen the vital Strait of Hormuz.

The ASX futures market, which has been closed since Saturday morning, indicated the S&P/ASX 200 would fall 0.7 per cent at the open on Monday. That was before Trump’s Sunday morning (Monday AEST) post on Truth Social, which said: “An agreement has been largely negotiated, subject to finalisation between the United States of America, the Islamic Republic of Iran, and the various other countries.”
