Overview

Australian shares are poised for a modest fall at the open, while global markets were mostly sidelined by the US Thanksgiving public holiday. The S&P/ASX 200 is on track to close out the week with a solid 2 per cent gain.

US markets were closed on Thursday (Friday AEDT), and they are set for a half-day on Friday with a 1pm close. Futures trading was muted. The S&P 500 is 1.1 per cent below its record high, and the volatility index is at a three-week low.
