Overview

The Australian sharemarket is set to edge higher ahead of the Reserve Bank of Australia’s cash rate decision as investors await governor Michele Bullock’s remarks in her post-meeting press conference for clues about the direction of the economy.

Futures indicate that the S&P/ASX 200 Index is set to open up 16 points or 0.2 per cent at the opening bell. That’s after US equities traded in a narrow, though positive, range with a federal government shutdown looming and the Trump administration looking to use the disruption to sack thousands of employees to drive down costs.
