There should be a heavy feeling over the year’s biggest gathering of fund managers this week: Australia’s equities investors have run out of luck.
The lucky country now has the highest official interest rates in the G10, below-average economic and earnings growth, consolidated industries, high energy and labour costs, a major customer who isn’t growing like it used to, and is actively disincentivising foreign investment. It all makes Australian equities a hard sell.
