AGL Energy has advised that about 300 jobs will be cut across its operations, prompting unions to accuse the giant electricity and gas supplier of fast-tracking cuts to escape obligations to transition workers at coal power plants heading for closure.
Meetings were held this week with workers at AGL’s Bayswater coal power station in the Hunter Valley and its Loy Yang A plant in the Latrobe Valley. They were told the cuts would include management and operational roles at both sites, according to the Mining and Energy Union.
