Overview

Australia’s LNG exporters are set to benefit from a surge in prices after the escalating war in the Middle East forced major gas producer Qatar to halt operations, but industry analysts say their capacity to fill the potential supply gap is limited.

The bulk of Australian liquefied natural gas from producers including Woodside Energy and Santos is already committed under long-term contracts with customers in Asia, meaning they have little scope to offer extra cargoes to help replace the Qatari volumes.
