Telstra chief executive Vicki Brady says Australia’s biggest phone company will pass on higher costs to consumers if it cannot secure the frequencies used to transmit mobile phone signals cheaply, as the government prepares to renew licences for the valuable national asset.
Telstra and Australia’s two other big mobile services groups – Singaporean-owned Optus and ASX-listed TPG Telecom – are lobbying the government to slash the prices they pay for spectrum, which refers to the frequencies used to transmit wireless services.
