Shoppers have reopened their wallets this month, says Metcash boss Doug Jones, as signs of an imminent resolution to the Middle East conflict boost confidence, but he bemoaned unfavourable tax settings in Victoria as a persistent drag on spending.
The nation’s top supplier to independent supermarkets, including Foodland and IGA, reported group sales rose 1.9 per cent in the seven weeks since May 1 compared to the same period a year ago, driven by a clear pick-up in June.
