For Michelle Jablko, the former investment banker and ANZ finance boss who took the reins of toll road giant Transurban two years ago, the next 12 months could be make or break as investors demand a clearer picture of the company’s next phase of growth.
Since succeeding Scott Charlton, who during his 11 years running Transurban lifted its market capitalisation six-fold to $44 billion through acquisitions and new road developments, Jablko has been focused on simplifying the group, and squeezing more out of its assets. She has slimmed down Transurban’s executive team, slashed hundreds of jobs, and contained costs, keeping them below the rate of inflation.
