Mining stocks will rocket ASX to record within a year: Morgan Stanley

Morgan Stanley is tipping the Australian sharemarket will return to record levels by the middle of next year as surging commodity prices boost earnings across the materials and energy sectors, offsetting a slowdown in consumer-facing stocks.

Australian equity strategist Chris Nicol predicted the S&P/ASX 200 would hit 9250 points over the next 12 months, implying an 8 per cent gain from Tuesday’s level. That would surpass the benchmark’s record high of 9200.9 points reached in March.
