The Reserve Bank of Australia has forecast the worst medium-term economic growth ever, which economists warn will erode Australians’ living standards and put more pressure on the federal government’s deteriorating budget.
The latest central bank forecasts, showing the economy is expected to grow just 1.6 per cent over the year to June 2028, came as RBA governor Michele Bullock on Friday confirmed the link between government spending, inflation and interest rates to parliament’s economic committee.
