S&P 500 resets record high, Tesla surges, bitcoin tops $US116k

The S&P 500 reset its record high in the final trading session of the week, helped by a 7.4 per cent surge in Tesla as investors locked in their bets that the Federal Reserve is poised to cut interest rates by a quarter point.

The benchmark US equity index briefly topped the 6600-point mark for the first time late in the day. Six of the seven megacap technology stocks advanced; Amazon closed lower. The Fed’s rate decision will arrive at 4am on Thursday.
