It’s still early days in profit season, but one of the notable trends is another big tick up in expenses. Commonwealth Bank’s operating expenses were up 6 per cent. Suncorp’s costs were up 7 per cent. Westpac’s June quarter costs were up 4 per cent. JB Hi-Fi’s cost of doing business was up 12 per cent on the back of higher labour and lease costs.
